The special exhibition of works by Dermbach artist WERNER SCHWARZ (1924-2010), which opened on September 13, 2024, came to a close on October 18 with a festive finissage. Many interested art lovers, as well as friends and acquaintances of the artist, visited the diverse exhibition at the ANNELIESE DESCHAUER Gallery in Geisa.

On the final day, members of the association had prepared a reception with coffee and homemade cakes for the visitors.
Sylvia Möller thanked the artist’s family on behalf of the association for providing over 60 works from the artistic estate of her ancestor. The final tour of the exhibition was led by the artist’s daughter, Kristin Mainzer from Dermbach. She presented some of her father’s works and spoke about his various creative periods up to the last few years. Due to illness, he could no longer hold the brush so well and therefore painted with his fingers. The audience particularly liked these paintings, as they have a refreshing and modern effect with their very strong color pigments and bright colors.

Kristin Mainzer thanked the town of Geisa for providing the gallery and the hard-working volunteer members of the Förderverein Kunst, Kultur und Wissenschaft Geisa e. V. with Chairwoman Doris Heim for their great commitment in organizing and implementing the exhibition concept.
According to Kristin Mainzer, this was the only way to fulfil her late mother’s wish to commemorate her father’s 100th birthday with an exhibition. As this was not possible due to renovation work at the museum in Dermbach, she was very grateful that the special exhibition could be held in the exceptionally beautiful setting of the ANNELIESE DESCHAUER Gallery.
Werner Schwarz, who after the war trained as a decorative and mural painter, studied at the Dresden Academy of Fine Arts and was employed in the public education department in Bad Salzungen, immersed himself ever deeper in painting and art and was happy to pass on his experience and skills to others.
Many people learned from him, whether in painting and drawing circles or through his work in the Association of Visual Artists.
As an active member for many years, he was very well known.

Over 50 years of friendship with the artist – Rainer Döhrer gave an exciting

laudatory speechLove of his homeland His view of nature and his homeland, the Rhön, characterize his motifs.
They appear quite different from what was expected and demanded by the state at the time.
Of course, his work includes paintings of the post-war period, the flourishing industries (e.g. “Kalischacht”, “Bildnis des Brigadiers Weidner” from the VEB Wälzkörperwerk Schweina), portraits of Bulgarian people, but also pictures of landscapes and the Rhön mountains.
In 1956, he ventured into self-employment.

front left Rhön painter Herbert Lochner from DorndorfBroad

range of work The well-chosen selection of pictures for the exhibition shows the artist’s range of work over many years.
Initially very detailed depictions of the “shepherd” in ink and graphically followed later by almost expressive depictions of shepherd portraits.
They literally explode in bold colors and powerful brushstrokes.
Next to them are the depictions of the “Bulgarians”, which appear pensive.
Framed by dark colors, they nevertheless radiate joie de vivre and experience.
