School art exhibition officially opened

During the summer vacations in Thuringia, the new school art exhibition of the Rhön-Ulstertal School will be presented in the ANNELIESE DESCHAUER Gallery. This year, the traditional exhibition is based on Albert Einstein’s motto: “Imagination is more important than knowledge, because knowledge is limited.”

Doris Heim, chairwoman of the Förderverein Kunst, Kultur und Wissenschaft Geisa e. V., welcomed the numerous visitors to the exhibition opening, including many pupils, parents, teachers and the principal of the Geisa regular school, Jens Jahn. The visitors were impressed by what the young talents presented under the guidance of their art teacher Dagmar Nicklich.

In her laudatory speech, Dagmar Nicklich recalled Anneliese Deschauer, whose wish was always to introduce children to great art and which was definitely fulfilled. She thanked the members of the association, especially Doris Heim, Ursula Fischer and Sylvia Möller, for their active support in preparing the exhibition. She also thanked the VR-Bank NordRhön for its many years of support for the school art exhibition. Dagmar Nicklich also thanked the school management for always keeping a benevolent eye on the students’ artistic development and supporting their projects with all their might.

Pupils then explained their pictures, the various techniques and the intentions behind them.

The diverse topics of the individual classes included the portrait “Me” and “Forest creatures” of the 5th grade, “On the high seas” and “Cat happiness” of the 6th grade. Class 7 had the themes “Landscape of the Rhön” and “Still life”. The Pop Art artist Keith Haring and “Heaven’s Gate – Hell’s Gate” were the themes of class 8a. The small works of art created by class 8b were buildings based on Fröbel’s gift, made from toothpicks, peas and tissue paper.

Class 9a showed poster design “Sustainability”, with the posters by Lena Spieler and Anna Breuksch even making it to the state level in this year’s VR-Banken painting competition. Class 9b presented tape art, a form of street art, in bright colors.

The year 10 class explained the diverse art of the 20th century with a timeline, presented Suprematism after Kazimir Malevich as a pioneer of modern art, expressive portraiture after Alexei Jawlensky and abstract design after Wassily Kandinsky. Cubism with Picasso was just as much a part of the variety of exhibits as the Bauhaus workshop with its unique figures made of wire and aluminum foil.
Numerous works from the art collection of great masters in the gallery thus found a connection to the works of the young talents.

“Exhibiting a work of art is special praise and also an incentive to put in extra effort,” were the concluding words of dedicated art teacher Dagmar Nicklich. Based on this intention, the exhibition of the pupils’ work promises an intensive collaboration between the regular school and the Förderverein Kunst, Kultur und Wissenschaft Geisa e. V. (Geisa Association for the Promotion of Art, Culture and Science).

Finely placed between world artists such as Chagall, Münter and Dalí, the works of the young talents can now be admired in a varied setting until July 31. Thanks to the new audio guides and the gallery guide for children, a tour of the ANNELIESE DESCHAUER Gallery is also an interesting experience for families.
