On 13.05.2022 Marie Trender, Tristan Kehr and Tim Jentsch from the Gymnasium Vacha presented their seminar paper with the topic “Jewish culture in Geisa – suppressed and forgotten?”. This lecture took place within the framework of the anniversary year “1700 Years of Jewish Life in Germany”.
Before the lecture in the ANNELIESE DESCHAUER Gallery, the three young people laid a total of nine Stolpersteine by the artist Gunter Demnig in the presence of the descendants of the Stern family, who now live in the United States and England.
The church choir of Geisa sang for musical accompaniment. In very emotional moments Stolpersteine were laid for Ruth, Nelly, Max, Betty, Beate, Hermann, Franzi, Lisel and Johanna Stern. “With the laying of the stones, the memory of the people who once lived here comes to life again, they bring back the names and remember each individual fate,” spoke the mayor.
In his address, the chairman of the local history association, Johannes Henning, referred to the new edition of the book “Jewish Life in Geisa” written by Heinz Kleber, the sales proceeds of which the local history association invested in the laying of the Stolpersteine with the support of the Werner Deschauer Foundation. However, he also thanked the numerous donors for their support.
